Nature Songs
“Great creations come from the mathematical mind, so we must always consider all that is mathematical as a means of mental development.”
Songs offer children a dynamic way to learn about nature while engaging their bodies and minds. Through rhymes and movement, they can explore concepts about botany, ecosystems, farms, and animals in an interactive and memorable way. These activities encourage kinesthetic learning, foster rhythm and coordination, and help children connect with the natural world. Additionally, rhymes help children with their phonological awareness skills. This is a song Claire wrote to teach children about the mushroom life cycle, with movements connected to enhance learning:
Mushroom life cycle song
(to the tune of I’m a Little Teapot)
I'm a little mushroom in the ground,
Tiny and round, I don't make a sound.
When the raindrops fall, I pop right out,
I grow and I grow, but I do not shout. (said in a whisper)
Underneath my stalk, mycelium grows,
Threads connecting in the soil below.
With a cap so round, my spores go free,
Into the air to another tree.
The story starts again when my spores hit the ground,
Mycelium just grows all around!
